Reading and Mother’s Day
What is your countdown?! I can’t believe we are less than 20. That’s just insane! We have been little busy bees, though…no time to slow down! 🙂 Here are a few fun activities we did last week. I hope you can use them!
We read this SUPER adorable and funny book I picked up at our book fair! It’s so cute!! It’s about a new puppy that totally throws off Mister Bud’s routine! I love it because it’s funny, the kids love it, AND it has a very distinct beginning, middle, end. It’s perfect for this retelling flipbook we made.
Beginning- Everything was fine
Middle- Until Zorro came
End- Then they were friends
We need to work on complete sentences some more!! 🙂 Hahah…but you get the idea! Super simple activity, and great practice! Plus, it’s like basically no prep at all if your little ones can fold and cut!
We also have been learning about the Big Ideas and Moral in a story. One of the questions on our reading inventory is “What do you think the author wants you to know?” That question always trips my little friends up, so I try to ask it on a regular basis. But, I figure, if they can get the moral of the story, they can answer that question!
The moral of the story is to be yourself! I think this, because Tacky was being hisself (himself, ha!).
The moral of the story is to be yourself. I think this, because he saved the day!
The moral of the story is to be yourself. I think this, because Tacky was crazy! After they did their sentence stem, they decorated shirts that represented them as a reminder to be yourself. 🙂 Too bad I couldn’t find a template for a Hawaiian shirt! That would have been even better! If you don’t use Tacky books, you HAVE to! Seriously…they can be used for like pretty much any lesson, ha. Not even kidding!! 🙂
And finally, I’m super late to join the party sharing our Mother’s Day crafts! But, I love the way ours turned out. I called each kiddo over individually the do the interview (and help them spell!) While I was doing that, they were working on their “mom’s.” The only rule was that they couldn’t draw…everything had to be cut out.
Love the curly hair on this one!!!
Then, they cut out adjectives that described their mama. So funny what some of them chose! You can grab this little craftivity on Google Docs by clicking this picture. 🙂
