Student Teacher Fun
Hello!! Can you believe I am up this late?! Seriously…feeling pretty proud. I did lay down at 8:00 and I realized I had about a million more things to do. Then the inspiration hit me for this post and here we are!! 🙂
Sooo…today I got my very first student teacher. She’s not full time…she comes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and she is FAB.U.LOUS. Like seriously, I feel so lucky! She jumped right in today and started working with my babies and she is so kind, appreciative, and teachable! My kiddos love her so much too!
I was talking to my sweet friend, Danielle, over at Kroger’s Kindergarten and she said “I had such an amazing mentor teacher. I want to pay it forward.” She took the words right out of my mouth. I had two fabulous mentors, and I seriously hope I can be as wonderful as them.
I wanted to do a little post on how I welcomed her to our classroom! 🙂 Hopefully it gives you some ideas when you get a teacher newbie to mentor! 🙂
I had this set out for her this morning…some of my favorite teacher goodies and necessities! Target was out of Flair pens…WHAT?!?!??!?
And of course she HAD to have her very own binder!! I love the new supply line at Target…Yoobi. PLUS whenever you buy from them, they donate supplies to babies in need!
These are a few tips I put together with a little help from my friends! 🙂 I tried to put down some of my top priorities as a teacher so she would know my style. I also put down things that I wish I would have known (like take pictures!)
I figure whatever district she works in, she will have a pretty laid out curriculum. That’s how things roll here in the metroplex. BUT one thing she will have a lot of control of is her behavior management. That’s why I put a bit of info about why I do things. 🙂
Seriously…teaching is like a foreign language. This doesn’t even include all the acronyms and generic teacher language. These are just the things that we talk about at my school on a regular basis that she might not know about. 🙂
Reflection is probably the most important part of teaching in general! I thought these pages might help her as she reflects and prepares. I think she has her own pages to fill out but just in case she wants something colorful, haha! 🙂
I just printed all of our TEKS for her for when she needs to reference them. 🙂 Nothing to fancy here!
Of course, a class schedule! 🙂
These are some of my principals’ policies and I figured it would be helpful to have them at a glance. 🙂
Finally, I got this page ready for her with my roster so she can start taking notes about kiddos to ask questions about, share ideas, etc. 🙂
I’d love to hear how you prepare for a student teacher! I’m sure you have way better ideas than me!! Also…did you know Texas is finally getting cooler?!? WOO HOOO!! Praise JESUS! This redhead won’t get sunburned at recess for much longer!
Last thing! Have you checked out the fab Educents bundle yet?!?
