Easy to Implement Behavior Charts
Hi friends! Happy Saturday!! I have had a LAZY day and it has been wonderful! Keith and I have plans with his sweet family tonight to celebrate his mamas birthday! I just wanted to stop by and share something that’s working REALLY well in my room. This year, I stopped using a clip chart. If you’re curious, we can talk more about it. Mostly because I read the fabulous book Positive Discipline in the Classroom over the summer. We are using a currency system this year, as well as LOTS of class meetings, discussions, and problem/solution chats.
Even with these changes, I have a few friends that are struggling with things like staying in their area and completing their work. I mean…I think all first grader struggle with that, haha. But these 2 friends needed more structure and support than what I was giving them. PLUS they both have incredible, involved, supportive parents. They wanted to know exactly how their days were, and that wasn’t happening with our currency system. So I whipped up these charts and they are working so well.
The kiddos work hard to get their smiley faces and they are in small enough increments that they can be successful. It isn’t tied to any consequence or reward in the classroom yet…eventually we might need to do that. But for now, the other things I have in place are working for them. 🙂 These are also great data tracking for me, because I can see if there are any patterns in their behavior. This is our 2nd week using it, and you can see our little friend had a GREAT week. I seriously think it’s mostly because of the chart.
Of course, I put together some editable ones for you to make if you have any kiddos that might need it. You will find charts with 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 parts of your day. You could include specials, lunch, recess…whatever your baby needs! I definitely recommend choosing a specific goal for them instead of just “happy face/sad face” for their behavior.
