Favorite Authors

Soooo…we had a snow day yesterday. Which means I TOTALLY thought today was Monday. And I was so confused when other sweet teachers were on Tuesday’s blog post for the linky party! Then it hit me…today is Tuesday. Wow.

Anyway, I will just be a day behind because I’m super pumped to blog about my favorite author and books. 🙂

You know I love me so Mo. But I never realized how much I would LOVE him until we discovered the Elephant and Piggie books during our Author Study. They are HILARIOUS…I think they are better than Pigeon and I think Pigeon is pretty much the best! Check them out…really!!

Who doesn’t love Splat?! I also really love these books for teaching any sort of fiction story elements or retelling. They are perfect for Characters, Setting, Problem, Solution, and retelling in order. I almost always leave one of these for a sub if I need emergency plans and they can quickly write about the Beginning, Middle, and End! I also really love that there are Easy Readers. My lower readers aren’t quite ready for the full picture books, but the Easy Readers are perfect for them!! Plus they are 3.00, haha! Can’t beat that!

I’m a girly girl through and through…I just think these are precious. We don’t read them a lot in class, because well it just doesn’t seem fair, haha! BUT…I am hoping to be Pinkalicious for our Character Parade this year!

Same story…super girly. BUT these books have really precious messages about friendship. I don’t know about your little ladies, but mine are really struggling with excluding and being kind right now. These perfects are perfect for a little chit chat about being a good friend.

These books are PRECIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And they have such a fabulous message about learning to read and write. I read them EVERY year at the beginning…and they are always a hit!

When I need good nonfiction mentor texts, I pretty much always go for Gail Gibbons. I LOVE the text features she includes…I haven’t found one with photographs but there are lots of other good NF books for that (see below.) Her books are FULL of information…some of it is even a little over my kiddos heads, but it leads to great questions! Plus I have some kiddos that just LOVE to LEARN. They absorb facts like little sponges…these books are perfect!! She also has pretty much every topic you might need!! LOVE GAIL GIBBONS!!

I am ALWAYS looking for these at Half Price and on sale at Scholastic. My babies LOVE these!! I wouldn’t really use these for read alouds, but they love having them in their book boxes and using them for research. They are awesome. They also have incredible text features!

And now I just wanted to share a few favorite titles. Have you read this book? Omg…get ready to be emotional. It’s a beautiful story that teaches about all different types of families. I cry every time I read it.

And this book…well it’s just precious. I randomly got it at Barnes and Nobles and fell in love. This mama monster is telling her baby how much she loves her, but since they’re monsters it’s opposite. It’s AWESOME.

And finally…last year, my babes were OBSESSED with Zombies. I found it and knew we HAD to have it. It’s hilarious. It’s pretty much exactly how it looks…weird, quirky, and fun!

Even though I’m a day late (shocking, I KNOW!), I hope you will head over and check out great Dr. Seuss ideas and other favorite books!! 🙂
