Holidays Around the World

Hi friends! I hope you are stocking your carts over at the big Cyber Monday sale! I love, love, love that the promo code is “Smile” because there are so many precious pictures floating all over social media! I’m loving seeing all my friends as little ones!
I wanted to show you my Holidays Around the World Unit since it’s one of the most fun times of the year! We usually spend the last week (or two…hahah) before Christmas Break learning all about other holidays. I have mentioned before, but my school is incredibly diverse. I have kiddos from Africa, Korea, India, Pakistan, Iraq and all over America in my class, so it’s very important to me that we talk about holidays and how we can find things in common!
We spend time learning about the 6 major winter holidays…Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Diwali, Ramadan, and Chinese New Year. I have had kiddos in my 1st grade room that celebrate all 6 of these, and I have learned SO much from them!
First, we read these books together and complete the activities on each page. We learn the “big ideas” about each holiday and how families around the world celebrate them.
Each book has 5-8 pages, depending on the amount of information! 🙂 Every page has some sort of activity for them to complete to make it more interactive! I tried to put something in each holiday that has every kiddo make a connection to their own lives top make it more relevant and engaging!

Here are some other printables you will find!
There is a bubble map for each holiday!

I also included vocabulary cards! They would be perfect in a pocket chart or to put on a ring for them to reference during writing!

Finally, there are 4 literacy centers included to bring your learning into your workstation/Guided Reading/Daily 5 time! Each center has an “I Can” chart and comes in color and black/white.

I hope you love this unit as much as I do! It is one of my favorite things to teach every year!
You can also grab some other Christmas/Winter activities in my store! You can grab them for 28% off tonight and tomorrow!
